How Whownit makes money
Whownit is free to use. We earn money from some links to alternatives and from clearly labelled sponsored placements. Here is how that works, and what it can never change.

Affiliate links
Some links to alternatives are affiliate links: if you follow one and sign up or buy, the provider may pay us a commission. Using our link normally doesn’t change the price you pay.
Links to alternatives go through a short whownit.com/go/ address so we can count clicks. We record which alternative was clicked from which page — not who clicked.
Sponsored alternatives
A company may pay to be shown as an alternative. Sponsored alternatives are always labelled Sponsored wherever they appear, and many alternatives we list pay us nothing.
What payment can never change
Facts come first. No partner, advertiser or company can pay to:
- add or remove a country connection
- change ownership, origin or headquarters
- change a confidence level or a source
- change the order of facts on a page
- have a correction accepted or rejected
Our methodology explains how facts are sourced and checked.
